Official Clayton County Inmate Search
The Clayton County Inmate Information Search is the only sanctioned tool for active jail records. The landing page is titled Clayton County, GA Inmate Information Search. It offers a name search and three booking-date docket buttons.
Name search requires only the last name. The page says first name is optional and can be a first name or a first initial. Name search shows active inmates only.

The screen above is the inmate search page in its current form. The three booking-date docket buttons sit alongside the name field.

How to Use the Clayton Jail Roster
The name search is best when an exact spelling is known. The booking-date dockets are best when only the arrest date is known. The two work well together. Most users start with the name search and then check the 48-hour docket if the name search returns nothing.
- Open the Inmate Information Search page.
- Type the last name and an optional first name or initial.
- Click Search By Name to see active inmates with that surname.
- If the search is empty, click the 48 Hour Docket Book button to see the most recent bookings.
- Click a docket number in the result row to open the inmate detail page.
- Review the charges, bond fields, intake date, intake time, and arresting agency.
- Call the Sheriff's Office at (770) 477-4479 to confirm bond before paying.
The 48-hour booking docket shows everyone booked in the last two days. The 14-day and 31-day dockets work the same way but cover longer windows.
What Clayton Inmate Search Results Show
The result list shows a row per active inmate. Each row shows the docket number, name, age, charge, and bond amount. The docket number is linked and opens the detail page. The booking-date docket shows the same fields plus an intake date and time.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Docket Number | Sheriff-assigned booking identifier. Example 202508801. |
| Name | Inmate name as recorded at intake. |
| Age | Age at intake. |
| Charge | One or more charges listed for the booking. |
| Bond Amount | Property amount, fees, or No Amount Set, with a *** READY *** flag. |
Reading a Clayton Inmate Detail Page
The inmate detail page is more useful than the result row. It shows the booking record fields below. Sample inspected by the research team at the inmate sample URL.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | Full name as booked. |
| LE Number | Local law-enforcement number for the inmate. |
| Intake Date / Time | Date and time the inmate was booked. |
| Arresting Agency | Example: Clayton County Sheriff (FOD). |
| Sex, Race, Height, Weight | Physical descriptors recorded at intake. |
| Names of Record | Aliases and committed name in a small table. |
| Offenses | Charge number, charge text, and bond amount per count. |
| Bond Disclaimer | Fees not included; amounts subject to change; property vs cash rules. |
The sample inspected did not show a mugshot, a full date of birth, a housing pod, a next-court-date row, or warrant numbers. Those values may or may not be visible depending on the booking.
Bond Amounts and Fees
The bond section on a Clayton inmate detail page can show several different values. The sample showed *** READY *** for cleared dockets, property bond amounts, fee amounts, and a No Amount Set label for some charges. The disclaimer language is direct: additional fees are not included in bond amounts; bond and fee amounts are subject to change; property-bond dockets can be satisfied by approved property bond or paying the full cash amount plus fees; cash-bond dockets can only be satisfied by paying cash plus applicable fees.
For practical purposes, this means a bonding company or family member should always call to confirm the exact dollar amount and the accepted payment method before traveling to the jail. Bond amounts can also be reset at a first-appearance hearing in Magistrate Court.
Note: The bond ready flag does not mean someone can be released without payment; it confirms a bond has been set and the docket is processed.
Active Inmates vs Released Inmates
The name search shows only active inmates. The booking-date dockets show recent bookings, which may include people who have since been released or transferred. A person not found in the name search may have been released, may have been transferred to state custody, or may have been booked under a different name. The released inmates page covers verification of release in detail.
Anyone who needs hard confirmation of a release should call the Sheriff's Office or set up a notification through VINELink. VINELink is the national victim-notification system and can send phone, text, or email alerts when custody status changes for participating agencies.
Visitation and Mail
Official Clayton jail pages reviewed for this build did not publish a visitation schedule, a video-visitation vendor, a commissary vendor, or a mail-address format. Anyone planning a visit, deposit, or letter should call the Sheriff's Office at (770) 477-4479 to confirm current rules and any vendor name. The inmate-search disclaimers also note that bond and fee amounts can change, which means visitation and money rules can change just as quickly.
| Item | Where to Confirm |
|---|---|
| In-person visitation | Sheriff's Office (770) 477-4479. |
| Video visitation | Sheriff's Office; vendor not published. |
| Attorney visits | Sheriff's Office; arranged through jail policy. |
| Mail address format | Sheriff's Office; verify inmate ID before mailing. |
| Money / commissary deposits | Sheriff's Office; current vendor varies. |
Sheriff's Office Contact
The Sheriff's Office is the right point of contact for custody questions that the website does not answer. Sheriff Levon Allen leads the agency and shares the Banke Justice Center campus with the courts.

Privacy Limits in Jail Records
Georgia law sets limits on what jail records can show. Personal identifiers such as Social Security numbers and full birth dates are protected under O.C.G.A. § 9-11-7.1 and court rules. Medical and mental-health records are protected by state and federal privacy law. Investigative records may be exempt from public release under O.C.G.A. § 50-18-72 while a case is open. The inmate detail page reflects these limits: the sample showed no Social Security number, no full date of birth, no housing assignment, and no medical flag.
State and Federal Inmate Searches
The Clayton search covers only the county jail. People sent to state prison after sentencing appear in the Georgia Department of Corrections offender query. Federal inmates show up in the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator. Each system uses its own search fields. The released inmates page covers the workflow across the three systems.
How a Clayton County Booking Works
The booking process at the Clayton County Jail starts with the arresting agency bringing the arrestee to intake. Intake staff records demographic information, the arresting agency, charges, and the booking time. The Sheriff's roster then shows the person as an active inmate while the case moves through Magistrate first appearance. If the person is released, the name disappears from the active name search but can still appear in the 48-hour, 14-day, and 31-day booking dockets for the time window.
The first appearance in Magistrate Court usually happens within 48 hours of arrest. The Magistrate judge reviews probable cause, sets or reviews bond, and gives the defendant formal notice of the charges. After the first appearance, the case may move to State Court for misdemeanors or to Superior Court for felonies. Each move can change which court calendar the case follows.
Clayton County Detention Facilities
The Clayton court campus runs two corrections functions. The Sheriff manages the jail. The county Corrections Department manages the Clayton County Correctional Institute and inmate-labor programs. The Corrections Department page describes the Institute along with refuse control, code enforcement, and grass-cutting work. Official capacity numbers were not published in captured sources.
| Facility | Address | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Clayton County Jail | 9157 Tara Boulevard, Jonesboro, GA 30236 | Active inmate intake and custody. |
| Clayton County Correctional Institute | Run by the Corrections Department | County prison-style facility; inmate-labor and community-service support. |
Next Steps After Finding a Booking
Once a Clayton booking is confirmed, most users want to know two things: when does the person go to court, and how much is bond. The court date is set after the first appearance. The bond is shown on the inmate page, but the figure can change. Use the Clayton County court records page to find the case once charges are filed. Use the warrant records page if there are outstanding warrants tied to the booking.
